Growing up, my mother worked 15 hours a day, 7 days a week and 363 days out of the year. Before my brother and I could drive, mom would wake up at 6:30 a.m. and drop us off at school and some how manage to jet home quickly in the afternoon to pick us up and make us dinner. This was the life of a restaurant owner. And despite numerous opportunities to work for other people, my mother lived by one motto: “Why work so hard to make other people money, when you can work just as hard for yourself.”
As I decided to take the opportunity this year to leave an incredible job to start my own venture, the first person I turned to for advice and guidance was my mother. As a supportive parent and successful entrepreneur, she helped pave the road that I now follow. She taught me that there is only so much luck in the world, so it is up to each person to make every moment and every opportunity count.
